a framework and experiment for thinking about media and networked communication through solar logic: slow, ambient, renewable, and intermittent.
not just about powering servers with sunlight, but about designing systems with the cyclical rhythms of the planet in mind, insisting on presence over performance and intention over interaction. a solarsocial approach is seasonal, asynchronous, and gentle.
conceptual shifts: infinite scroll to finite seasonal publishing, cloud-hosted to locally-hosted or intermittently connected, engagement-optimized to reflection-optimized, fomo to jomo.
uptime becomes tidal. sunlight becomes a signal. if the sun's not shining, the site can nap. embrace intermittence.
this connects directly to soft stack ecology: creating systems as living things, not always-on machines. it leads to tool farming, building simple iterative tools that help us connect without always needing to be present and online.
