solarpunk web
solarpunk · solar · low-tech · slow-web · ecology · decentralisation · sse · almanac
a loose constellation of practices, projects, and philosophies aimed at making the internet slower, smaller, and more ecologically honest. not just green hosting or greenwashing, but a different logic entirely.
personal anchors:
- solar low-tech magazine: solar-powered server, dithered images, design as constraint. the canonical example of solar web practice.
- solarpunk almanac: my own curated list-as-object, almanac aesthetic, no tracking, json-backed static site. another plot in a small garden, not a feed.
- solar protocol: a network focused on energy and human-centred design.
design as an ecological act. low-tech magazine's approach: dithered images reduce page weight and the site's background colour reflects current battery level. the interface becomes a weather report. this is a design principle worth carrying: let environmental conditions be legible in the system itself.
soft stack ecology and the solarpunk web share ground: small, repairable, and local-first systems, tools that improve livelihoods without extracting from them, and convivial technology in ivan illich's sense.
