philosophy · lineage · ecology
chicana cultural theorist, poet, and philosopher from the us-mexico border. her borderlands/la frontera: the new mestiza (1987) names the psychic, cultural, and geographic space between worlds as its own territory, more biodiverse and generative than either side that created it.
her theory of nepantla, the nahuatl word for the in-between space of transformation, is the philosophical ground beneath ecotonal practice. nepantla is not confusion or failure; it is the site where old frameworks break down and new ones become possible.
she writes in code-switching spanish and english prose-poetry, itself a situated, ecotonal act. the most essential addition to my lineage. her absence was a gap, not an omission.
